“Look to See” will present a collaborative exhibit that has been in the making since July 2017. The artists, Lauren Vanni and Patti Paulus, have been regularly working together to combine Lauren’s ceramic skills with Patti’s calligraphic skills to convey thoughts on the environment, global warming and climate change. Using Lauren’s beautiful porcelain ceramic forms and Patti’s eloquent lettering skills, lots of hard work, experimentation, evolving thoughts & ideas, and learning from each other has resulted in this exhibit. The work encourages the viewer to ‘look’ and ‘see’ our impact on nature.

Patti Paulus, a founding owner of ‘The Palette & The Page,’ was born in Dayton, Ohio and graduated from the University of Dayton. She has lived and studied art in various cities until she finally settled in Maryland in 1987. She currently resides in the Fair Hill region of Maryland. Actively working as a lettering artist since 1982, she practices calligraphy as an art-form and uses hand-rendered letterforms in her graphic design work. She also paints, draws and her new found love of charcoal is opening up fresh avenues of expression for her. Patti has taught and lectured on calligraphy in Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, and Maryland. Her work has been exhibited in Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina and Ohio, and is in numerous private collections around the world.

Lauren Vanni received a Master of Fine Arts degree in Ceramics from the University of Delaware where she was an adjunct professor and the Ceramics Studio Manager. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics and a Master of Education in Art Education from Arcadia University. She is currently a Professor of Art at Cecil College in Maryland. Lauren’s work has been widely exhibited at various galleries including the Biggs Museum in Dover, DE, The Milburn Stone Theatre Gallery in North East, MD, Marlboro Gallery in Largo, MD, Crane Arts Building in Philadelphia, PA, Brooklyn Artist Gym in Brooklyn, NY, LSU School of Art Gallery in Baton Rouge, LA, Chester County Art Association Gallery in West Chester, and most recent at Arcadia University in PA.

JoAnn Dawson has been a full time stable owner since 1983. She and her husband Ted currently own and operate Fairwinds Farm & Stables in North East, MD, offering riding lessons, summer camp, trail rides, horse-drawn carriages, pony rides, hayrides, birthday parties, fresh produce, weddings on the farm, and a bed & breakfast. She will be signing her book “Bed, Breakfast & Beyond”, a memoir chronicling the highs and lows of operating a farm-based B&B.

Singer/Songwriter, Em McKeever will be retuning to share her music during the Opening Reception.
